Can this be?

After trailing Boston by 14 1/2 games a couple of months ago we are now a game and a half behind the green monster. What is happening to the Boston Red Sox?

The key to the current down slide are the injuries. And every team has problems when it come to the health of their players. Some players are really injured and some players are… mental. I mean some players take their problems into their heads mentally and cannot perform properly. Case in point – Manny Ramirez. ESPN cited that in the past two years Manny has only played 19 games in September. NINETEEN in TWO years! But you see, in Manny’s defense he’s injured. Really?

News reporter – “Hey doc, what’s the injury report on Manny Ramirez”.

Boston’s team doctor – “Well see, he has a sort of a twinge.”

News reporter – “Is this a re-occurring twinge”

Boston’s team doctor – “Apparently.”

And apparently the twinge is also being felt on the backside of Boston as well. Regardless how well Manny and the Sox’s are not  playing, they will make to the playoffs, that’s for sure. Whether they will win the pennant is really up to them.

Surviving Boston…

Baseball heaven for me is when the Yankees play the Boston Red Sox. It does not matter to me which stadium they play (and I have been to both) it will always be a good game. And it doesn’t matter who wins or who loses – Ok, who am I kidding, it is always better when the Yanks win. But if we lose, Oh well, there is always tomorrow, unless it’s the 7th game of the playoffs and Big Popi comes to the plate and smacks a homerun to the right upper deck to end our season. Personally, that is my favorite game to date, even though we lost. It was a great game. It was better than the home runs hit by Bucky F’n Dent and Arron F’n Boone.

Well this series wasn’t as dramatic, but it had it’s moments especially when Joba Chamberlin’s name comes up. (See previous post.) Pettite held up well, Wang got pelted, and Roger got smacked around, but was saved by our bull pen.

We took 2 out of three games which is good. That just puts us closer to Boston in the race for the pennant, but surpassing them is just wishful thinking. If we can take the wild card I will be happy. We just need to get in. Before we get to that point we have to play Baltimore twice, and they can play the spoiler. Baltimore is an enigma like Tampa Bay; generally they s*ck until they play either us or Boston, then they play their “A” game. Too bad they can’t do it everyday.

The action this week…

Saturday, September 8, 2007

This week is where the wild card race will be defined; who will the Yankees have to battle for the wild card. (OK, Yankee fans you are going to have to admit it, the wild card is our only shot to the playoffs. There is no way we are going to catch the best team in baseball: the Boston Redsox.) The battle this weekend will be with Detroit and Seattle; the two teams who has the same pursuits (like all teams) for post season play, and they are playing each other. Despite who wins between the two, we have to maintain the lead by beating KC, and KC will not be a cake walk. They are an enigma like Tampa; they play tough teams tough, but they blow it with average teams.

Let see if we can sweep the Royals again. Go Yanks!

Those damn Devil Rays…

Sunday, September 2, 2007

I wish the Yankees could figure out those damned Devil Rays.  (They just took us 2 out of three games.) If we could, we could take the pennant. But we can’t. The sorriest team in our division has our number. Personnaly, I think they are an enigma; they can’t beat other teams but they nail us good EVERY time! When I look at our schedule, I don’t worry about Boston, Cleveland, or Anahiem. I worry about Tampa and Baltimore. These are the two teams that will bring us down. Damn those Devil Rays!
Also, Congrats goes to Clay Buckholz of the Boston Red Sox for pitching a no hitter Against the Orioles on Saturday.
